Frown lines between the brows are truly difficult to deal with. Many people furrow their brows without even realizing it and over time, and wrinkles between the brows can become deep divots in the skin that not even the best anti-aging creams can counteract. If you want to minimize or erase these lines, then you need a working solution. At Tampa Bay Plastic Surgery we offer Jeuveau Newtox–an excellent wrinkle relaxer treatment for most people.
Released in 2019 under a South Korean company, Jeuveau Newtox is the newest alternative to Botox, a neuromodulator that has been a leading favorite around the world for over a decade. Jeuveau is a more easily accessible and affordable treatment than Botox and is quickly growing in popularity due to its high rate of efficacy, reliability, and speedy results. If you’re looking for a reliable treatment for your anti-aging concerns, then this wrinkle relaxer is likely a good choice for you.
Jeuveau is approved to treat specific wrinkles on the upper face. In particular, this treatment is ideal for treating mild to moderate fine lines and wrinkles between the brows (glabellar lines), on the forehead, and around the eyes. Interestingly, this treatment is also known for being a preventative aging measure. Essentially, while this neuromodulator works to smooth out the appearance of your wrinkles, it also can help prevent or slow the development of other wrinkles at the same time, making it a more proactive treatment step for age-related concerns.
This treatment works in the same way as Botox and other neuromodulators. The essence of a neuromodulator treatment is the active ingredient, a form of botulinum toxin A, that inhibits the normal function of motor neurons. When motor neuron function is blocked by a neuromodulator, the nerves lose their ability to send or receive movement signals from the brain, which means that the muscles in the face will no longer move until the neuromodulator wears off.
The active ingredient in Jeuveau is prabotulinum toxin A, a highly-refined form of botulinum toxin that is cleared only for cosmetic use. This treatment works by injecting small amounts of the Jeuveau neuromodulator formula into the muscles of the face; as the neuromodulator settles and is absorbed by the body, the muscles exposed to the formula will cease movement for several months and the wrinkles on your face will diminish in appearance.
Although these two treatments are very similar, there are also some differences between them. For example, Botox can be used in more places on the face thanks to new research and off-label uses; Botox is also cleared for medical usages, such as treating migraines or bladder spasms. Additionally, although both injectable treatments are based on a botulinum toxin formula, there are different protein additives in each injection that help bind the toxin to muscles.
Another key difference between the two is the fact that Jeuveau has been specifically marketed for cosmetic use only, which is part of why it’s more affordable than Botox. Jeuveau can only be used on the face to relax the appearance of wrinkles, although notably this particular neuromodulator can be safely used on crow’s feet and other wrinkles around the eyes.
Yes, you will still be able to feel your face after a neuromodulator treatment. There are two main types of neurons in our bodies called motor neurons and sensory neurons. Botulinum toxin neuromodulators only interfere with motor neurons, which means they stall the function of muscles without removing the ability to feel a sensation on the skin.
The first part of your treatment will be a consultation appointment where we will get to know you and your anti-aging concerns. We will examine the severity of the wrinkles on your skin to determine if this treatment is an appropriate option for your aesthetic needs and goals. If you have never used a neuromodulator treatment before, you may need to complete a simple allergy test to verify your compatibility with the treatment; most people have no issues.
Your treatment appointments with Jeuveau are classic “lunchtime” appointments, meaning it will only take about 15 to 30 minutes to complete your treatment depending on how many areas need to be treated and how many injections are necessary to achieve your goals. You will be able to go back to work after your treatment or complete any of your other daily activities, with the exception of exercise.
Preparing for this treatment is the same as preparing for Botox. One essential step of your preparation will be to discontinue any blood-thinning medications or supplements for at least five to seven days before your appointment. Discontinuing these products will minimize any bleeding from the injections. You will also need to stop using certain skincare products, such as acids and retinoids, about a week before treatment so that your skin is calm before your appointment.
After your treatment is complete, you will need to follow a list of instructions to ensure that your treatment is successful and that you will be able to achieve your desired aesthetic goals. For example, you should avoid direct sunlight, excessive heat, strenuous exercise, and rubbing or touching your face. You should only cleanse your face with tepid water and gentle soap for the first three to five days after your treatment. We may provide you with specific instructions after your appointment.
Although you should not massage or rub any areas of the face after your injections, you should do your best to engage your facial muscles in the first 24 hours following your appointment.
Engaging your facial muscles means making exaggerated expressions, such as lifting your brows, for a few minutes a few times a day. By moving your facial muscles, you will be able to work the neuromodulator deeper into your muscles and likely enjoy longer-lasting results.
No, this treatment is not painful or any more uncomfortable than your average shot. For the sake of comfort, some patients ask to apply a topical numbing cream before the treatment begins; others take Tylenol about an hour before the appointment.
Like Botox and other neuromodulators, the amount of formula necessary for your treatment is calculated by units. Since Jeuveau uses a more diluted form of botulinum toxin than Botox, the number of units required for your treatments will be determined by a three to one ratio – for every one unit of Botox needed, you will need three units of Newtox. We will determine the appropriate number of units for your treatment.
Jeuveau is much more affordable than Botox treatments due to the fact that this treatment is only marketed for cosmetic use. On average, Jeuveau costs about 20% less than Botox, which means you will pay about $8 per unit for your treatment and manage the same results.
One of the most exciting things about Jeuveau Newtox is that you can enjoy the final results of treatment far faster than Botox. While Botox often takes two weeks to work, it takes only a few days for the final effects of Jeuveau to become visible. In fact, most patients are able to detect visible results in as little as three to four days, meaning this treatment is the fastest-working neuromodulator available. The quick results of this treatment make it the perfect solution if you have a major event in a week.
Just like Botox, you should expect to enjoy the results of this treatment for about three or four months at a time. Some patients notice that their results for this treatment only last for three months during their first treatments, but over time this treatment will last closer to four months as your body acclimatizes to the injectable formula.
You can have this treatment safely about three times a year. Most patients have this treatment once every four months to maintain their desired results. If you aren’t sure it’s time for another treatment, we can help you determine when your next appointment should be.
In addition to attending maintenance appointments, there are a few other things you can do to maintain your results. For example, limiting your UV exposure through sun and tanning beds will prevent the neuromodulator formula from breaking down. Using skin care products that support the anti-aging health of your skin, such as hyaluronic acid and retinoids, may also help your results last longer or enhance the appearance of your results.
Absolutely. In fact, it’s common to combine neuromodulator injections with other treatments, such as dermal fillers, to produce comprehensive anti-aging results. Depending on your needs, you can use other aesthetic treatments to correct superficial skin concerns, such as facials. Combining this treatment can be a good idea if you have appearance concerns that can’t be corrected with a neuromodulator, such as sun damage or scarring.
A good candidate for this anti-aging treatment includes those who are physically healthy, those who are at least 18 years of age, and those who want to smooth wrinkles caused by muscle hyperactivity. Unfortunately, if you have a history of neuromuscular diseases, such as multiple sclerosis, or you are pregnant or breastfeeding you will not be considered a good candidate for this treatment.
You should also not consider this treatment if you are currently sick or you have had an infection in the past 14 days. Infections include skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and cold sores. We will discuss your medical history, current health, and allergies during your initial consultation to ensure that treatment is appropriate for your current needs and goals.
Jeuveau Newtox is an incredibly affordable, effective anti-aging treatment based on the same neuromodulator principles as Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin. The active ingredient blocks some of the signals sent to your muscles so hyperactivity ceases but you can still make natural facial expressions.
