BOTOX in Tampa

restore youthfulness

Injectables like BOTOX, Dysport and Jeuveau have become a popular, affordable way for patients to restore youthfulness in the face by relaxing the muscles that create unwanted frown lines, worry lines, and crow’s feet. They not only prevents the formation of new wrinkles, but also soften and erase existing lines and creases.

Facial aging is a complex process with many contributing factors, depending on a person’s genetics and lifestyle. Over time, collagen breaks down, facial volume diminishes, the skin loses some of its laxity, and the continual contraction of muscles creates dramatic wrinkles and creases.

Dr. David Halpern is a triple-board certified plastic surgeon who has skillfully performed BOTOX injections in Tampa since it was first approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2002. We also offer Dysport and Jeuveau (Newtox) so that patients have choices.

What is BOTOX Cosmetic?

BOTOX is an FDA-approved, trademarked drug derived from the bacterial toxin Botulin. When injected in small amounts, it can effectively weaken overactive muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles, such as crow’s eyes, forehead creases, and frown lines between the eyebrows for a period of 3-4 months. It doesn’t fill lines — just makes it harder for the muscles that cause wrinkles and lines to contract.

At our office in Tampa BOTOX isn’t the only method used to treat face and neck wrinkles. Other similar options include Dysport and Jeuveau. You may also look into chemical peels or microdermabrasion for mild surface-level issues, dermal fillers to soften moderate facial lines and wrinkles in other parts of the face, or more invasive treatments like brow lifts, facelifts and neck lifts for severe wrinkles. If you are interested in turning back the clock, you may also ask about alternate products like Xeomin and Restylane.

For Men

to look as young as they feel

BOTOX, Dysport, and Jeuveau are not just for women. The number of men getting Botox injections alone has surged an astounding 337% from 2000 to 2014, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Over 400,000 men opt for natural-looking Botox enhancement each year. Men get BOTOX to look as young as they feel, though the years pass by. They’re getting BOTOX before weddings, vacations and birthday parties. The average “Brotox” client is around 50 years of age, but surgeons have treated guys in their 20s, 30s and 40s who are looking for a pick-me-up, without the downtime. Dr. David E. Halpern treats hundreds of men interested in brow enhancements to make them look younger, fitter, friendlier, happier, more rested, and more attractive.

Preparing for the Injections

Before receiving BOTOX, you’ll need to stop taking any medications or herbal supplements that can thin the blood, cause excessive bruising, or increase the risk of adverse reaction. This may include:

  • Aspirin
  • Fish oil
  • Gingko Biloba
  • Ginseng
  • Ibuprofen
  • Excedrin
  • Omega-3
  • St. John’s Wart
  • Vitamin E

You should also avoid drinking tea or alcohol several days before your injection. Remember, do not stop taking any medications unless directed by your healthcare providers.

Procedure

The injections typically take less than 10 minutes to administer. A tiny needle delivers the drug directly into the hyper-reactive muscle. Some patients report that their injections felt “like a pinprick” or “a pinch.” The surgeon may use a cold pack or topical anesthetic to numb the area prior to injection to minimize discomfort. The number of injections required will depend upon the severity of your wrinkles and their locations. With BOTOX, for example, you can generally expect up to 3 injections for the crow’s feet area and up to 5 injections in the frown lines area.

Recovery

This is considered a “lunch break treatment” since there is no set recovery time necessary. There may be slight bruising or redness at the injection sites, though, so you may want to schedule when you can take the rest of the day off. With BOTOX Tampa patients can expect approximately two hours for the toxin to bind to the nerve, so you want to avoid excessive activity which may increase circulation and wash away the solution from where it was injected.

Side Effects

Injections may cause serious side effects that can be life threatening. For example, get medical help right away if you have any of these problems any time (hours to weeks) after injection of BOTOX Cosmetic: Problems swallowing, speaking, or breathing, due to weakening of associated muscles, can be severe and result in loss of life. You are at the highest risk if these problems are preexisting before injection. Swallowing problems may last for several months. Spread of toxin effects. The effect of botulinum toxin may affect areas away from the injection site and cause serious symptoms including: loss of strength and all-over muscle weakness, double vision, blurred vision and drooping eyelids, hoarseness or change or loss of voice, trouble saying words clearly, loss of bladder control, trouble breathing, trouble swallowing.

BOTOX Frequently Asked Questions

There has been a 310% increase in the number of men getting BOTOX from 2000 to 2014. More than 400,000 men receive BOTOX each year. Celebrities like Simon Cowell, Bill O’Reilly, and Jared Leto have had them done.

When injected by a licensed, skilled medical expert, your results should look completely natural. You will not lose the ability to show expression.

Sixty and seventy-year-olds can receive BOTOX treatment and still see observable results. It may take a full two weeks to see results, especially when the wrinkles are more deep-set. However, it all depends on the unique case. Keep in mind Dysport generally has faster-acting results, with changes oftentimes seen in just 3-4 days. Ideally, you can begin this type of treatment just as fine lines are beginning to appear and continue with treatment as you age to prevent deeper expression lines from forming.
