Takes years off

a skillful blend of art and science

Facelifts were among the “Top 5 Cosmetic Procedures” of 2014, with 128,226 surgeries performed on tired American faces. The most skilled plastic surgeons are not aiming to create a totally different person through rhytidectomy – but rather, to revitalize a person by addressing unwanted changes associated with aging. Dr. David E. Halpern is an experienced Tampa Bay plastic surgeon who uncovers natural beauty with a skillful blend of art and science.

Facelift Before and After Pictures

Results are evident immediately. The patient’s appearance will continue to improve dramatically over the next few weeks, as swelling and variable bruising disappear completely. More subtle enhancements may be noted up to a year after the procedure. View the radiant results of Dr. David E. Halpern’s Tampa Facelift work in the “Before & After” gallery.

What is Facelift?

Facelift vs. Mini Facelift

A facelift is a surgical procedure that restores youthful contours to the face. Full recovery takes several weeks, and the results last up to 15 years or more. Please note that every individual is different and will experience different results. Lifestyle choices such as sun exposure, skincare, and smoking can impact your lasting results.

A facelift can correct:

  • “Marionette” line creases from the nose to the corners of the mouth
  • Saggy, overstretched skin
  • Poorly defined jawlines / “jowls”
  • That “tired, weathered” look
  • Neck contour laxity
  • Fat that has fallen or disappeared
  • Droopy cheek muscles and connective tissue

A mini facelift (also sometimes called a “weekend” facelift) is a less invasive alternative to the traditional facelift. Dr. David E. Halpern performs this procedure in a couple of hours by using a local numbing agent and making small incisions. Patients may return to work within a few days and enjoy results lasting five to ten years.

A mini facelift can:

  • Enhance the muscle and bone definition of one’s cheeks and neck regions
  • Reduce minor sagging and drooping skin with a limited incision/exposure
  • Produce a well-rested, restored appearance

Prior to surgery, Dr. David E. Halpern compassionately listens to patients’ goals and offers counsel on which procedures would best achieve those objectives. Mini- and full- facelifts are often done concurrently with additional procedures like fat grafts to the face, upper and or lower blepharoplasty (excision of excess eyelid skin/fat) and brow lifts, non ablative laser wrinkle reduction and skin resurfacing/chemical peels.

Reasons for Considering a Facelift in Tampa

There are many beautiful people in Tampa, Florida.

While we enjoy “the good life” down in Florida with 246 sunny days per year, all this splendid sunshine can take its toll on the skin, causing premature aging.

Genetics, stress, lack of routine skincare, and smoking add years onto the face. With a Facelift Tampa patients get an effective way to press clean up the laxity and banding of the neck and refresh the jawline to be smooth. Fat grafting lifts the midface and replaces lost volume with a regenerative approach as the fat, which is not resorbed, will be there forever and will improve the quality of the overlying skin. “Why not look as young as you feel?” says Dr. David E. Halpern.

Facelift Procedure

Customized to meet your aesthetic needs

Individuals interested in a Facelift or mini-facelift procedure are invited to contact Dr. David E. Halpern to schedule a consultation. At this appointment, he will discuss goals for surgery, types of procedures to reach the stated objectives, medical history, risks, and expectations. In addition, patients can use the consultation to gauge the surgeon’s expertise and bedside manner.

Preparations for your Facelift in Tampa may include quitting smoking and stopping herbal supplements or blood-thinning medicines temporarily before surgery. Dr. David E. Halpern understands the unique challenges that face each patient and customizes his approach to the individual. “Facial aging is about laxity, volume loss, and skin changes,” he explains. For instance, he may use fat-grafting in areas that are volume-deficient to rejuvenate the mid-face and lift along the jawline and neck to clean up the contour. His attention to detail is one reason patients come to Tampa Bay Plastic Surgery Inc. for their facelift needs.

Facelift Recovery

Refreshed | Rejuvenated

Dr. Halpern will remove your facial bandage the next day after surgery. You can expect swelling and bruising over the next two weeks, but these side effects typically subside within three to five days.

If needed, a cold compress/ice packs/frozen peas/corn can ease any discomfort and help with reducing swelling. After receiving a Facelift Tampa patients typically return to work within a week, and all sutures are removed in one weeks time. Showering is ok after dressings are removed, and we use a face bra compression garment after the first dressings are removed, which is easily removed and placed back on with velcro straps to adjust tension. You can wear makeup and return to work usually within a one to two-week period, but you will need to wait three weeks for elliptical exercise and six to weeks before returning to unrestricted strenuous exercise. Your results will continue to improve over the year.

You can expect to see noticeable results immediately but may need to wait for the full effect of your changes once any swelling and bruising subside. Facelift results last about ten years; however, a natural aging process still happens, so it is essential to have a consistent skincare routine. You can maintain your results by wearing sunblock, eating healthy, getting the proper amount of sleep and rest.

Facelift Frequently Asked Questions

A Facelift is a safe and effective procedure; however, some risks may include a hematoma or blood that pools under the skin, which must be drained by a syringe. Minor wound healing issues may occur as well as spitting underlying sutures which may need to be removed at later intervals if your body does not dissolve them. Infection at the incision site is extremely rare as well as facial nerve injury. It is vital to keep your incisions clean, and you will receive specific post-treatment instructions from our staff.

During your consultation, Dr. Halpern will discuss all of your surgical and non-surgical options. However, non-surgical treatments are not permanent and require frequent and repeated treatments. Some non-surgical therapies include dermal fillers such as RHA, Radiesse, Renuva, Sculptra, or Restylane; neuromodulators, such as Botox or Dysport; or radiofrequency (RF) or ultrasound therapy treatments such as TempSure to tighten skin.

Facelift costs vary depending on individual needs but generally include pre-op, anesthesia, surgery center care, and post-op. Dr. David E. Halpern’s office is happy to help patients achieve their dreams with financing options. In some cases, Flexible Medical Savings accounts may be used toward cosmetic surgeries. However, it is crucial to avoid “basement bargain” surgeries and instead consider expertise.

A facelift is considered cosmetic surgery and is not covered by medical insurance. However, we offer payment and financing options for your convenience.
